[rtl]US crude prices hit their highest level since mid-2015 on the last day of trading this year after an unexpected drop in US production and shrinking oil stocks.[/rtl]
[rtl]In global markets, Brent crude prices also rose, supported by ongoing supply cuts by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Russia, coupled with strong demand from China.[/rtl]
[rtl]According to Reuters news agency, prices of West Texas Intermediate crude reached the highest level since June 2015 at 60.30 dollars a barrel by 0504 GMT on Friday, up 46 cents, or 0.8 percent, from the previous settlement.[/rtl]
[rtl]Brent crude futures were up 45 cents, or 0.7 percent, to $ 66.61 a barrel. Brent broke the $ 67 a barrel barrier earlier in the week for the first time since May 2015.[/rtl]
[rtl]US crude rose on support from an unexpected drop in US production, which fell last week to 9.754 million bpd from 9.789 million barrels a day in the previous week, according to data from the Energy Information Administration published Thursday evening.[/rtl]
[rtl]Prices were also supported by a drop in US commercial inventories by 4.6 million barrels in the week ending Dec. 22 to 431.9 million barrels, according to the department.[/rtl]
