The Iraqi Ministry of Health said on Monday that firecrackers in Baghdad caused amputations and mutilations.

"The firecrackers and fireworks in Baghdad on the occasion of New Year's Eve have led to disasters and tragedies for some families, which caused severe injuries to their children as a result of misuse," ministry spokesman Saif Badr said in a press statement.

"These games led to amputation of a number of children and facial malformations, in addition to the loss of some of them," Bader said, calling on them to "stay away from these games, which cause great damage."

The Al-Rusafa Health Department in Baghdad announced on Monday that it had recorded 120 injuries due to fireworks during New Year's Eve.
