The United Nations' Iraq settlement card was "unfair and biased" by political parties that adopt "suspicious agendas that encourage intervention in Iraq's affairs," MP Farados al-Awadi said on Wednesday.
During a press conference, Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi announced his government's rejection of the settlement, describing it as an internal Iraqi affair.
Al-Awadi said in a statement today that "the paper, which included (according to what was leaked) the re-trial of political convicts terrorism and the release of some of the detainees of symbols of the former regime is to challenge the credibility of the Iraqi judiciary, which is closer to the Iraqi situation."
"The inclusion in the paper of a paragraph called the balancing of the government representation of the two sides of the Shiite-Sunni political equation, and amending the provisions of the amnesty law is a blatant interference in the Iraqi nation, as well as the consolidation of sectarian sectarian division and encouragement to keep the crises without any solutions."
"These paragraphs ignore the opinion of the majority and directly affect the feelings of Iraqis and victims of terrorists, including political leaders who have been convicted of terrorist acts categorically."
Al-Awadi concluded by saying that "any political settlement must come out of the will of the Iraqis and not be in the form of proposals or dictates coming from abroad."
