BAGHDAD / Basra Provincial Council member Ahmed al-Sulaiti said on Thursday that the province would resort to the judiciary if the government refused to grant the province its financial allocations, noting that the issue of granting allocations Basra is not a mood but is subject to constitutional standards.
"If the central government refuses to grant Basra its petrodollar allocations, we will have to resort to the judiciary and regulatory bodies and file a lawsuit against the prime minister in order to shoulder its responsibilities and fulfill the legal and constitutional promises," al-Sulaiti told Iraq News.
He added that "the allocations of Basra is not a mood or formality, but allocations are fully conservative and attached to the budget and subject to constitutional and legal standards and therefore must be committed to the government to meet them," adding that "the deputies of Basra can not influence more than resort to the judiciary because they are linked to alliances and political blocs."
