Washington suspends security aid to Pakistan

The State Department has decided to stop security aid for Pakistan until Islamabad takes action against the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network, which Washington believes destabilize the region.
State Department spokesman Heather Naort said she could "not give a specific figure for frozen aid because the US administration continues to assess the types of aid covered by the resolution."
"Some aid may continue if Islamabad takes decisive action against both groups," Naort said.
"Today I can confirm that we have suspended ... security assistance for Pakistan at the moment only until the government of Pakistan takes decisive action against groups including the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network. We regard them as a source of destabilization in the region and they target Americans. "
