The ninth day of the Iranian uprising began on Friday, amid calls for protests to continue, with posters under the headline "Friday the anger of the blood of the martyrs" denouncing the dead who were shot by security during the demonstrations, where the opposition says the number is 50 people, while officially admitted the killing of 22 protesters so far.
Activists called on Friday to prevent clashes with pro-regime marches by students of religious seminaries and members of the Basij and Revolutionary Guards, while protest rallies were expected following a match at the Traktor Sasi stadium in Tabriz, the center of the province of Azerbaijan. While the police and internal security forces surrounded the perimeter of the stadium with dozens of cars and a large number of elements.
During the match between the Traktor Sazi and Tabriz teams, the supporters chanted "death to Khamenei", "death to the dictator" and "shame Khamenei and leave power."
According to reports from Tabriz, the roads leading to Tabriz from Ardabil, Uromiyah and Khoi were closed by the deployment of checkpoints.
It is reported that since last night, several areas in the city of Tabriz have become almost military barracks.
Witnesses said that special units of the Iranian internal security deployed along the roads leading from Ardabil to Tabriz stopped fans from reaching the stadium.
Activists took photographs showing police reluctance and stopping buses from Erdebil to Tabriz for a match. They took young people out of buses, filmed fans and asked them to return to their homes, while arrests continued among activists in various provinces. Opposition figures say more than 3,000 were arrested While the regime admitted at least half of that number. The Ministry of Intelligence also arrested at least 43 students in less than a week for participating in the demonstrations.
