The US Justice Department has announced the establishment of a special unit to investigate the Lebanese Hezbollah after Washington accused the party of funding its terrorist targets through drug trafficking.
"This group on financing Hezbollah and drug trafficking for terrorism is charged with investigating individuals and networks that support Hezbollah and pursue them," the ministry said in a statement.
The Justice Department added that the team would include specialists in money laundering, drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crime, and that the investigation would target Hezbollah's widespread network across Africa and Central and South America.
"Justice Department will spare no effort to remove All that threatens our citizens by terrorist organizations and curb the destructive drug crisis. "
"The group will pursue prosecutions that limit the flow of funds to foreign terrorist organizations and also disrupt international drug trafficking involving violence," he said.
