US President Donald Trump on Friday called on his European partners to modify the nuclear deal to "put an end to Tehran's attacks and support the Iranian people."
"We will withdraw from the nuclear agreement if it is not amended," Trump told Europe.
A US administration official said President Donald Trump had decided to keep sanctions on Iran suspended in accordance with a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the superpowers.
The official added that Washington has listed 14 Iranian entities and personalities related to human rights abuses in Iran to its list of sanctions against Iran. The second man in Iran includes the head of the judiciary, Sadiq Larijani, stressing that Washington will work with its European allies to find an annex or amendment to the nuclear agreement.
A Bloomberg journalist said on Twitter that US President Donald Trump would extend the easing of sanctions on Iran under the nuclear deal signed by Iran in 2015 with the United States and world powers.
Trump has a deadline to decide on sanctions.
A US official said the move would likely be accompanied by new sanctions targeting Iranian businesses and individuals.
The administration of President Donald Trump is expected to take hours on the issue of extending Iran's economic sanctions against it under the nuclear deal, while Treasury Secretary Stephen Menochon has signaled the administration's intention to impose new sanctions on Tehran.
