Newspaper: The Palestinian Authority sends an invitation to the American Consul in Jerusalem

Al-Hayat newspaper quoted Palestinian officials as saying that the Palestinian Authority had not cut off contacts with Washington and that it had invited the American Consul in Jerusalem to attend the opening session of the Central Council scheduled for Sunday in Ramallah.
"The Palestinian Authority has cut off its contacts with the political process team, which includes both US Special Advisor to President Jared Kouchner, Special Envoy for the Peace Process Jason Greenblatt, and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and has suspended any contact with any official on the operation," a senior official said. Political, but maintains official bilateral relations. "
The source said that "bilateral contacts have not and will not stop, including official channels and security cooperation, but contacts about the political process stopped in full form."
He pointed out that "the Authority extended invitations to all ambassadors and consuls in Jerusalem and Ramallah, including the US Consul General."
"But it is certain that the US consul will not hear anything that is pleased at the central meeting."
The newspaper reported that the US political process team held more than twenty meetings with the Palestinian side in Ramallah, but another Palestinian official accused the team that "it worked for the benefit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not work for the benefit of America."
The official added: "It was clear from the beginning that he is an Israeli of fancy and identity. All of his people are united by one thing. They are American Jews who are supporters of the settlements. All their efforts were to protect and expand settlements and to adopt Netanyahu's view on any political solution."
"In the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and President Donald Trump in Bethlehem, Greenblatt asked Trump, when he was talking about the requirements of the peace process, to refer to the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, the latter replied. But Netanyahu told me yesterday that 20 percent of the population of Israel are non-Jewish Arabs. How can we say that it is a Jewish state only? "
"It is clear that the Trump team is the Netanyahu team, and it is easier for the Palestinians to negotiate with Netanyahu to negotiate through the US team. Therefore, it is no longer possible to conduct any dialogue or contact with this team, after the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and the transfer of the embassy to it.
Since Trump announced that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and decided to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem, Palestinian officials, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, considered that America has ruled out itself as an honest broker for the peace process.
