    Information / follow-up ...
France has rejected the idea put forward by British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, to build a giant bridge across the English Channel after the separation of his country from the European Union.
The newspaper "Daily Telegraph" that Johnson, who led the campaign to secede from the Union in the referendum in 2016, put forward the idea of building a bridge on the channel length of 35.2 km, during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macaron to Britain.
Johnson gave Macaron some of his thoughts on building a canal crossing, and the French president responded positively.
"All ideas deserve to be taken into account, even the far-fetched ideas," French Finance Minister Bruno Le Mire said. "The canal already links the second and third largest economy in Europe."
"We have major European infrastructure projects that are difficult to finance," he told Europe 1 radio. "To complete first the projects already under way before thinking about new ones."
It took Britain two centuries to accept the creation of the English Channel, once conceived by French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, although the land link was the focus of concerns about illegal immigration.
