(WTO)Iraq and Saudi Arabia sign two agreements to develop the "Arar" crossing and strengthen customs cooperation

Iraq and Saudi Arabia signed two memorandums of
understanding for the rehabilitation and development of the Arar and Gemayma border ports and the promotion of customs cooperation between the two countries.
In mid-August, the authorities of the two countries announced the reopening of "Arar Al-Bari" permanently for the purpose of commercial exchange, following the completion of the work of repair and maintenance of the road, and the end of the threat of the presence of bandits.
A statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce issued on Sunday that the talks that took place in the Saudi capital, between the Ministers of Commerce of Baghdad and Riyadh, discussed ways to increase the volume of trade exchange through the development of border crossings and rehabilitation of roads leading to it.
The Saudi Minister of Trade and Investment, Majid al-Kasabi, affirmed the Kingdom's support to enable Iraq's entry into the WTO, referring to Saudi Arabia's chairmanship of the Arab Group in the Organization, calling on Iraq to expedite the completion of the required procedures correctly.
The two sides discussed the investment opportunities available in the Iraqi market, especially in the field of electricity and energy, the reality of the Iraqi agricultural sector and the possibility of benefiting from Saudi expertise, especially in modern irrigation techniques and the production of chemical fertilizers, feed and cattle breeding.
Last July, Iraq's agriculture minister, Falah Hassan al-Lahibi, offered one million hectares of agricultural investment to Saudi capital with all the required services.
During the participation of the Iraqi oil and gas exhibition in Basra, Riyadh signed with the Iraqi capital, 18 joint memorandum of understanding, with the announcement of the formation of a high-level committee between the Saudi and Iraqi sides, in order to prepare a plan for trade cooperation between the two countries.
It is worth mentioning that the Chairman of the Committee on Iraqi-Saudi friendship in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, announced on 13 December last, the desire of major Saudi companies to invest in Iraqi provinces, agricultural and animal projects.
