    [ltr]German Foreign Minister Zygmar Gabriel said he had asked NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg to hold a meeting in NATO to discuss the situation in northern Syria.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"The Federal Government remains concerned about the military conflict in northern Syria, so we are working with France to reduce tensions there, ensure humanitarian aid and protect the civilian population," he said in a statement released Thursday.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The German foreign minister described the tasks, which Berlin and France set up as part of this work, as "the highest priority".[/ltr]
    [ltr]He also stressed that "both Germany and France emphasize the need to take Turkey's security interests into account," but stressed that "the possibilities for negotiations on the establishment of peace and stability in Syria is still and should not be jeopardized by a military confrontation," adding that " Has repeatedly stressed this to the Turkish government. "[/ltr]
    [ltr]Earlier in the day, the German interim government confirmed that it had postponed the decision to modernize the tank arsenal of the German "Leopard-2" in Turkey because of the use of these mechanisms in its military campaign against the Kurds in northern Syria.[/ltr]
    [ltr]For the sixth day in a row, Operation Olive Branch, launched by the Turkish army, last Saturday targeting the military positions of "Kurdish People's Protection Units" in Afrin, north-west of Syria, amid strong condemnation by the Syrian government.[/ltr]
