    An expert on economic affairs described the Ministry of Oil's referral of the FAO Refinery and Petrochemical Complex to Chinese companies as a "major step", as it is achieving large financial returns to Iraq. The project also contributes to the operation of hundreds of labor force, which will reduce unemployment rates. A spokesman for the Ministry of Oil Assem Jihad said in a statement received by the ministry that the ministry referred the FAO refinery project, which includes a petrochemical complex to the Chinese companies "Power China" and "Narco", indicating that the refinery capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, Of the giant export investment projects, and will be built in the city of Faw in the southern province of Basra.
    He stressed that this project comes within the plans of the Ministry of Oil to promote the sectors of liquidation and petrochemicals for export purposes, which strengthens the role of Iraq in these areas and generate significant financial revenues to support the national economy. He added that the project includes an integrated complex of petrochemicals and other facilities will be built near the export port In the FAO, and explained that the ministry "is planning to achieve self-sufficiency of oil derivatives through the establishment of investment projects in the liquidation sector and the gradual transition to the country of origin," and is in the process of announcing soon to invite investment companies to participate in the implementation of P Anbar refinery capacity of 150 thousand barrels per day, the refinery Qayyarah capacity of 100 thousand barrels per day, as well as Dhi Qar refinery capacity of 150 thousand barrels per day, and other projects will be announced later.
    For his part, described the expert in the oil, Hamza al-Jawahri said in an interview with (Al-Mada), this project as "a huge step", because it needs Iraq, and pointed out that the company that was referred to the refinery and factory, is an important and safe. 
    "The petrochemical industry is well known that its profits are very good, and its investments are large and can reach tens of billions of dollars, depending on the size of the project, and the more export capacity, the higher the returns and profits, and the economic feasibility of the best.
    "This project is an urgent need to develop the country's oil facilities and a very large addition to the national economy, especially since we have a large oil tax of up to 35%. We can also sell oil to China. We can employ hundreds of workers. He added that the ministry is working on the rehabilitation of old refineries such as Shuaiba refinery, which will be developed, where it will produce large quantities of white derivatives, and another refinery capacity of 50 thousand barrels per day, about to contract for construction, in addition to the refinery Karbala And other refineries, all of which can serve the economy in a colossal manner R. On the other hand, the petrochemical plant will use gas in petrochemical manufacturing.
    Iraq, according to geological studies, contains 530 geological structures that give strong indications of the existence of a huge oil. In 1977, the North Refinery Company oversees several other refineries, such as the Chinese Refinery, the Modern Refinery, the Kirkuk Refinery, the Qayara Refinery in Ninawa Governorate, and the Al-Kask and Al-Jazira Refinery. 
    The Ministry of Oil announced in May 2017 the establishment of a refinery in the province of Basra production capacity of 300 thousand barrels per day, calling on international companies to "compete for the establishment of a giant refinery," asserting that the construction of the refinery would raise production of oil derivatives and will provide financial revenues of the state Iraq.
    Iraq suffers from the aging of its oil facilities, which often produce less than its design capacity. Iraq has three large refineries, the refinery of Dora and the refinery of Basra and refinery Baiji, as well as 10 other small oil refineries spread over a number of Iraqi provinces, in addition to the existence of a number of refineries in the Kurdistan region.
