[ltr]The dollar slipped against a major basket of major currencies on Wednesday in a weak reaction to the State of the Union address, in which US President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass legislation guaranteeing a new spending on infrastructure of at least $ 1.5 trillion.[/ltr]
[ltr]The dollar index, which tracks the performance of the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, fell 0.1 percent to 89.062 in the latest reading, to stay above a three-year low of 88.43 last week.[/ltr]
[ltr]The euro was up 0.2 percent at $ 1.2423.[/ltr]
[ltr]The yen fell briefly after the Bank of Japan increased its purchases of Japanese government bonds in the medium term in a measure seen as a warning that the yield on bonds will continue to increase.[/ltr]
[ltr]The dollar hit a session high of 109.095 yen shortly after the Bank of Japan's announcement.[/ltr]
[ltr]However, the US currency later narrowed its gains to trade at 108.79 yen. Finished[/ltr]
