A Saudi court on Thursday sentenced a five-year-old citizen to a similar period of imprisonment after being convicted of abusing the royal court in a television interview.
The official Saudi news channel said: "The Criminal Court issued a preliminary ruling to establish the conviction of a Saudi national accused of slander and abuse of the Royal Court and its employees, speaking in a television interview and described him as the foundations and the origin of administrative corruption.
She added that "the court decided to strengthen him for what he was convicted of imprisonment five years from the date of arrest ... and prevent him from traveling outside the Kingdom."
The official Saudi channel did not name the accused, but activists on Twitter confirmed that he was a writer in Al Watan newspaper Saleh Al Shehhi.
Al-Shehhi was accused during a television interview on December 8 that the Royal Court was the basis for administrative corruption.
Al-Shehhi said that government institutions "have been established and founded for administrative corruption and very bad behavior. For example, you have the Saudi Royal Court from government institutions that have been corrupt at some stage."
