Pakistani authorities have begun building a barrier along the Afghan-Pakistan border on the outskirts of the city of Chaman in the western Baluchistan province.
The authorities explained that the decision came after negotiations in Chaman involving representatives of the Pakistani security services and the sheikhs of neighboring villages and that the barrier aims to stop the infiltration of terrorists from the Afghan side.
A security source confirmed that part of the local population would be transferred to other Pakistani areas, after being compensated by the government.
Pakistan says Taliban militants are operating from Afghan soil and are held responsible for a series of attacks in the country last year and calls on Kabul to liquidate militant "sanctuaries."
For its part, Afghanistan accuses Islamabad of harboring the leaders of the Afghan Taliban movement, which is fighting the Kabul government. Finished
