With the prospect of talks described as tough, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson begins a Middle East tour that runs until Feb. 16, including Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
US officials said Tilerson would focus mainly on the development of a range of crises with allied countries that threaten military success against a militant organization.
They expressed their expectation that the debate in Kuwait, Jordan and Lebanon would escalate over Trump's Middle East management strategy, especially its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Iran.
The officials added that Tilerson will discuss with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi the joint security cooperation in the face of terrorism and then head to Kuwait to lead the US delegation to two international meetings, one of which is among the 74 members of the alliance against a US-led and other Iraqi reconstruction conference.
They stressed that most of Tillerson's discussions will be thorny and tense, especially in Turkey, with reference to Turkish military operations against the Kurds. In Jordan, Tillerson is expected to sign a US $ 4 billion aid package.
