The Russian ambassador to Baghdad Maxim Maximov, Tuesday, the importance of Iraq's participation in the talks, "Astana" on the Syrian crisis, noting that Baghdad has made a request for it.
"Iraqi friends have made an application to join the Astana talks on the Syrian crisis," Maximov was quoted as saying by the Russian daily Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
"Iraq's participation in the Astana process seems important to us both in terms of its contribution to the elimination of state organization and because of the interconnectedness of events in Iraq and Syria," he said.
"The Iraqis want to keep pace with what is happening in Astana because that militarily affects the situation on Iraq's border with Syria," the newspaper said. "Iraqis simply want to understand the objectives and expectations of those countries on which the fate of the situation in Syria depends."
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Laudriane said Monday that Paris is counting on Iraq's role in resolving the Syrian crisis, expressing his country's readiness to complete the cooperation agreement between the two countries. Ending / 25
