    [ltr]Consecutive - Mawazine News[/ltr]
[ltr]A 19-year-old gunman returned to a Florida high school where he was studying and opened fire with a gun, killing 17 people and injuring more than 12 others before police arrested him, authorities said.[/ltr]
[ltr]The incident at the Marjorie Stonemann Douglas High School in Barkland is rated as the second-largest number of fatalities in a US government school ever. Parkland, a middle-class area 72 km north of Miami,[/ltr]
[ltr]The incident occurred shortly before departure.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Florida senators, who were briefed by law enforcement officials on the latest developments, said the attacker had put on a gas mask and sneaked into the school carrying a rifle, ammunition and smoke bombs and then took out a firearm, forcing students and teachers to run into the corridors.[/ltr]
[ltr]"There is the massacre," Senator Bill Nelson told CNN. Senator Marco Rubio presented a similar account on Twitter.[/ltr]
[ltr]A videotape recorded on a CPS satellite camera showed what the network described as a scene during a shooting in a classroom where several students were lying or lying on the ground surrounded by offices, mostly empty. The sound of gunshots was heard in quick succession amid hysterical screams.[/ltr]
[ltr]The attacker was later arrested close to the school in a nearby area. CNN quoted law enforcement sources as saying that the gunman tried to escape among the pupils who were fleeing the school but were spotted and arrested.[/ltr]
[ltr]Police chief Broward Scott said in a press statement that he was named Nicolas Cruz and was a high school student and was dismissed for unspecified disciplinary reasons.[/ltr]
[ltr]Gillian Davis, a 19-year-old freshman from the school, said that Cruise, when he was a first-year student, joined the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program under the auspices of the US military.[/ltr]
[ltr]In an interview with Reuters, Davis said, "Sometimes he's funny about knives and guns." "Nobody ever took him seriously."[/ltr]
[ltr]He said the attacker surrendered to the police without resistance and was armed with an AR-15 rifle with several ammunition boxes.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"This is a disaster ... I am speechless."[/ltr]
[ltr]He said 12 of the dead were killed inside the school, while two were killed directly outside and one person died on the street, while two of the victims died of injuries in a hospital. He said the victims were between pupils and adults.[/ltr]
[ltr]Authorities in two nearby hospitals said 13 survivors were being treated for gunshot wounds and other wounds, five of them seriously.[/ltr]
[ltr]This is the 18th shooting incident at an American school so far this year, according to the Everettown Gene Safety group. This includes suicides, unspeakable accidents and a January shooting attack in which a 15-year-old gunman killed his high school colleagues in Kentucky.[/ltr]
[ltr]Wednesday's attack was the second-largest shootout in a US government school in terms of death toll after the 2012 massacre of 20 students and six teachers at the Sandy Hawk School in Connecticut by a gunman who also killed his mother and committed suicide.[/ltr]
[ltr]Teachers and students told local media that the fire alarm went off at about the time of the shooting, creating chaos, with some 3,300 schoolchildren heading to the corridors at first, before teachers took them back to their classrooms.[/ltr]
