[ltr]US President Donald Trump has criticized the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) about his handling of a teenager who opened fire in a Florida high school, killing 17 people.[/ltr]
[ltr]"It is sad that the FBI overlooks all the signals that the shooter in a school in Florida has made," Trump wrote in a tweet on Twitter.[/ltr]
[ltr]He accused the office of "spending too much time trying to prove Russia's complicity with Trump's (2016) campaign."[/ltr]
[ltr]The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported on Saturday that the teenager had been interrogated by police and state officials in 2016 after deliberately injuring his arm in a videotape posted on social media.[/ltr]
[ltr]He said he wanted to buy a gun, but the authorities concluded at the time that he was receiving adequate psychological care.[/ltr]
[ltr]The teenager, named Nicholas Cruz, 19, was charged with mass murder last Wednesday at the Margory Stonemann Douglas High School in Barkland, where more than a dozen other people were also injured in the worst shooting incident in a US high school.[/ltr]
[ltr]The charge could be up to the death penalty, but prosecutors have yet to say whether they will demand it.[/ltr]
[ltr]The FBI admitted on Friday not to investigate a warning that Cruise was moving to carry a gun and the desire to kill.[/ltr]
[ltr]The FBI said a person he described as close to Cruise had contacted a line of office communications on January 5 to report his concerns. But the information was not passed on to the Miami office in what officials said was a breach of business rules.[/ltr]
[ltr]The revelations provoked outrage and discontent at Parkland and prompted Florida Gov. Rick Scott to demand the resignation of FBI director Christopher Ray.[/ltr]
