Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that the crisis in the Kurdistan region was caused by the recent battle for oil and the extension of the territory and increased control over the territory.

Abadi stressed in his weekly press conference that there is no siege on the Kurdistan region, but Baghdad continues to strengthen its federal authority to ensure the ports and airports in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil, explaining that in all countries of the world border crossings are a federal responsibility.

He added that the airports in the region will open for international flights when the conditions of Baghdad are met, and that the region expressed its full readiness to agree on the presence of a federal security force at airports.

Abadi also revealed that the federal government has opened the airports of the region to those who perform Umrah in Mecca and Medina, along with humanitarian flights and some official approvals, stressing not to give approvals to the sons of officials.
