Iraq has handed over four women and 27 children to Russia, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, showing that they had been "tricked" into joining the "Da'ash".

"Iraq has returned to Russia 27 children and 4 women were tempted to join Daash," the ministry spokesman said in a statement to a number of media outlets, including Alsumaria News, noting that "these are safe after the completion of investigations with them."

"They have not been proven to take part in terrorist operations against civilians and security forces," Mahjoub said, adding that "they will be prosecuted in Russia for entering Iraq illegally."

Russian media reported earlier that the Russian authorities had managed to recover one of the Russian children who were victims of decisions taken by their relatives to join terrorist organizations, including "calling" in Syria and Iraq.
