LONDON (Reuters) - Trump's Middle East peace plan could include US and international recognition of a Palestinian state and accept East Jerusalem as its capital, the Middle East daily Asharq al-Awsat reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the plan calls for the status of the Old City of Jerusalem to be placed under "international protection".
The report quoted "informed Arab diplomatic sources" in Paris as saying that the United States plans to present its plan in the context of an international conference that may be held in one of the Arab capitals, probably Cairo, in the presence of an Israeli.
However, the sources did not indicate a specific date for the presentation of the American plan, the details of which are still confidential.
The report follows a meeting in Brussels earlier this week during which Arab foreign ministers and their European counterparts discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after reports that the US administration would soon announce its peace plan, which Trump referred to as the "century deal".
The Arab media published various accounts of the alleged plan, which the Palestinians rejected even before it was declared a conspiracy aimed at eliminating the Palestinian cause. Some PA officials referred to the plan as a "slap of the century" and said the Palestinians would not accept it.

According to the report on Wednesday, the US plan calls on Palestinians to waive their demand for the "right of return" of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to their homes inside Israel.

In addition, large settlements will remain in place, while small "relocations" will be carried out, according to the settlement.

The report added that the US plan also calls for expanding the powers of the Palestinian Authority security and administrative areas A and B in the West Bank.

Washington plans to raise $ 40 billion to establish a Palestinian state and its state institutions, the sources told the newspaper. The sources confirmed that the funds were intended to "buy" Palestinian acceptance of the plan.

The sources also claimed that the plan allows Israel to maintain its security control on the border with the West Bank, while responsibility for the security of the Gaza Strip will be handed over to the Egyptians. Finished
