WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The US Senate is to vote on a bill to withdraw US troops from the war in Yemen and stop backing Saudi Arabia, unveiling plans to use a decades-old law to vote in the Senate to pull the country out of Yemen's "civil war."

Republican Senators Mike Lee, independent Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democrat Chris Murphy said they would make their first attempt to exploit a clause in the 1973 War Powers Act that allows any member of the council to make a decision on withdrawing US armed forces from a conflict where no Congress.

"We believe that this (in Yemen) conflict is unconstitutional and unauthorized, because Congress has not declared war or authorized the use of military force," Senator Sanders told a news conference.

He added that the draft law that we are asking "to stop the US support for Saudi Arabia in the war in Yemen," describing what is happening as a "devastating war by Saudi Arabia and the Houthis," and "must end US support for the Saudi alliance in Yemen because it is illegal."
