Pentagon asks Iraq to deploy 1,500 troops to prevent Iranian-Syrian coordination !!
The Pentagon is spending more than $ 290 million to allow Iraq to place scanners and deploy more than 1,500 security personnel, such as border guards and other equipment to secure the Al-Qaim, Al-Kamal and Al-Khabour crossings to prevent the transfer of tanks and guns to Syria.
"The land bridge exists only if Iraq allows Iran to use it," said Michael Knights, a researcher at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Adding that "the complete lack of situational awareness would be a disaster."
America and its teams of advisers advising Iraqi forces are at the invitation of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and have no authority to build permanent structures there. "The United States is still looking at how to measure the effectiveness of American partners in confronting Iran," said Boutel.
