    [ltr]A Guatemalan government spokesman has rejected a constitutional appeal by a lawyer to prevent the government from moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem as the United States intends to do, a Guatemalan government spokesman said.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The five judges of the Constitutional Court today rejected Marco Venecio Mejia's appeal in January, saying that the transfer of the embassy contravenes the principles and provisions of international law with regard to the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, Guatemalan government spokesman Santiago Palomo told AFP. .[/ltr]
    [ltr]At a meeting on Dec. 21, the UN General Assembly rejected any unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital before reaching a peace agreement that would determine its fate.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The US president signed a resolution recognizing Jerusalem as the united capital of the State of Israel on December 6, 2017 and announced his intention to transfer his country's embassy to Jerusalem later, which raised international condemnation and his critics said it undermined hopes for a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.[/ltr]
