[ltr]The International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Monday that US shale oil production will grow over the next five years to capture a share of OPEC producers in the market and the country, one of the world's largest oil importers, is close to self-sufficiency.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The historic agreement to cut production in 2017 between OPEC and other producers, including Russia, has reduced the supply surplus to improve the chances of other producers as a result of the significant increase in oil prices throughout the year," the agency said, according to Reuters.[/ltr]
[ltr]"As a result, the US crude resumed sharp growth over the past year and is expected to grow by 2.7 million barrels per day to 12.1 million by 2023, as the increase in production from the oil fields compensates for the decline of conventional supplies and even surpasses them," she said, Natural gas liquids will add 1 million barrels per day to 4.7 million bpd by 2023.[/ltr]
[ltr]Total fluid production is expected to reach 17 million bpd in 2023, up from 13.2 million in 2017, making the United States the largest producer of liquids by a large margin.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The United States will put its mark on the world oil market over the next five years," said Fatih Birol, executive director of the agency.[/ltr]
[ltr]Production growth from the United States, Brazil, Canada and Norway will meet global oil demand growth by 2020 and beyond, according to the agency, adding that more investment will be needed to boost production later.[/ltr]
[ltr]Production from non-Opec countries is expected to rise by 5.2 million bpd by 2023 to 63.3 million bpd and the United States alone will account for about 60 percent of global supply growth.[/ltr]
[ltr]"OPEC production, on the contrary, will slow down considerably, adding that Venezuela's output is expected to accelerate but that Iraq's output will compensate for the shortage. As a result, OPEC's capacity will increase by 750,000 bpd by 2023," the agency said.[/ltr]
[ltr]With OPEC's 36.31 million barrels per day (bpd) forecast, Opec will cover less than 35 percent of world demand by 2023 compared to its usual 40 percent.[/ltr]
[ltr]"Global demand will increase by 6.98 million bpd by 2023 to 104.7 million thanks to Asia's economic growth and increased petrochemical production," the agency said.[/ltr]
