The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed on Monday the existence of reservations by the International Monetary Fund on the budget, calling on the government to refuse to use the Fund for loan funds as a pressure card to control the country.
Committee member Zahir al-Abadi told Al-Maaloumah that "information received indicates that there is strong objection by the International Monetary Fund to some paragraphs of the budget of 2018."
He added that "among the paragraphs objected to the Fund the absence of the private sector in the budget and full dependence on the government sector, paralyzing the movement of the economy in the country," noting that "the IMF is looking for specific mechanisms that the government included in the budget, which may lead to the disruption" .
Abadi called on the government to "not allow the International Monetary Fund to intervene and control the country through loans granted to Iraq."
The spokesman for the Information Office of Prime Minister Saad al-Hadithi denied on Sunday, the existence of objections by the International Monetary Fund on some paragraphs of the budget.
