Saudi Arabia is conducting "secret" negotiations with the Houthis to end the war Friday 16 March NB-231911-636567779312700602

reported that Yemeni political and diplomatic sources on Friday that Saudi Arabia is conducting "secret" negotiations with the Houthis to end the war in Yemen has been going on about 3 years.

Two Yemeni diplomats and Yemeni officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity that there was direct contact between the spokesman of the Ansar al-Houthi group Mohammed Abdul Salam and Saudi officials in Oman to find a comprehensive solution to the dispute

"There are consultations between the Huthis and the Saudis without the representative of the internationally recognized government, and it is clear that the Huthis and the Alliance have a desire to move forward towards a comprehensive agreement," a diplomatic source was quoted as saying.
Diplomats said dialogue between the Houthis and the Saudis had been going on for nearly two months and coincided with the appointment of British diplomat Martin Griffiths as a new UN envoy to Yemen.

No further details were provided on the progress of the negotiations or whether there were any results, nor did the Huthis or the Saudis officially comment on the information.

It should be noted that previous rounds of negotiations on the settlement in Yemen, which took place in Switzerland and Kuwait Between the government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the Houthis and their allies did not lead to any significant progress, and the last round of negotiations in Kuwait under the auspices of the United Nations in August 2016.
