The deputy of the parliamentary wisdom bloc Salim Shawki on Sunday accused the successive governments of wasting 500 billion dollars from the state treasury, while noting that officials in the previous government used their positions to smuggle foreign currency abroad.

"The successive governments between 2006 and 2014 are accused of wasting 500 billion dollars from the treasury of the state because of the imaginary projects, including arms deals concluded by the ministries of interior and defense under the government of former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki."

He added that "some officials in the previous government took advantage of their senior positions for personal purposes and the smuggling of foreign currency abroad by private banks," while calling on the Integrity Commission to reopen the files and investigation with officials in the previous government to return funds to the treasury of the state.
