The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture has banned the import of frozen fish to all parts of the country.

"The ministry has banned the import of frozen fish from all border crossings because there is an abundance of local production, which comes as a result of the support provided by the Ministry of Agriculture to the fisheries sector," ministry spokesman Hamid Nayef said in a press release.

He added that the ministry calls on "the staff of border ports and all relevant authorities to implement this decision in order to protect the local product and serve the national economy."

And on the extent of implementation of the resolution in the Kurdistan region, said the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and water resources in the Kurdistan region, Khalis Ahmed: "Because of the holiday of Nooruz we have not received any official letter from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture."

He added that "the ministry directed a letter to the Kurdistan Regional Government to inquire about the extent of coverage of the ban on the import of goods of the region also because of the different local products in Iraq and Kurdistan, and the Iraqi government has banned the import of some goods from the Kurdistan region."
