{International: Euphrates News} Mexican authorities suspected a truck, and when the police searched it, they were surprised by more than 100 immigrants from Central America.
"Among them were dozens of minors in a truck on the verge of death suffocating because of high temperature and lack of food or water," the news sites reported today.
"136 migrants from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua were on their way to the United States inside the truck, but the authorities in the southeast state of Veracruz rescued them after 24 hours at temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius," the immigration agency said.
Tens of thousands of Central American people fleeing violence and poverty in their countries are trying to cross Mexico into the United States each year and are usually transported by human traffickers in precarious conditions.
A government document seen by Reuters showed authorities this year found more than 800 Central American migrants in trucks or shelters in Mexico.
The number of people caught on the border fell when US President Donald Trump took power last year and vowed to crack down on illegal immigration, but the number of people trying to cross has risen again in recent months.
Federal police and immigration officials found migrants detained in the truck in Veracruz after hearing cries calling for help from inside the truck left near a highway.
The authorities said they counted 49 minors among the group, 13 of whom traveled alone and will receive assistance to apply for asylum in Mexico while the authorities will return adults and children who came with their relatives to their country.
