    Since 2003, the effects of Iraq have been looted and systematically stolen.
     
    Iraq's antiquities trade is still the most sought after by the Iraqi government, while the Iraqi government is tirelessly trying to curb the gangs trying to smuggle antiquities and manuscripts abroad, despite the involvement of some senior government officials in facilitating the smuggling of such antiquities and obtaining a large percentage of the proceeds.
     
    The issue of smuggling or neglect of archeological sites across Iraq is a concern for the Iraqi people.
     
    Researchers in the field of archeology that there are mechanisms that must apply international and local standards, which is overlooked by the Iraqi government. 
     
    Environmental researcher Raad Salem said: "We had the hope to develop these archaeological sites, while we have more than 1200 archaeological sites still suffering from neglect." "We only have 5 percent of the sites under exploration."
     
    He also confirmed that "the archaeological sites in Nasiriyah are subject to scuffling and often the police command to arrest the arrest of gangs involved in the smuggling of antiquities."
     
    Archaeologist Hassan Gorani said that "the entry of archaeological sites and marshes into the World Heritage List is in itself a major achievement for Iraq in general and for the province of Dhi Qar in particular."
     
    He pointed out that "the federal government and the government of Dhi Qar demands the content of UNESCO's demands to preserve the effects of degradation, neglect and smuggling."
