British Ambassador to Iraq John Wilkes said Thursday that participation in Iraq's upcoming legislative elections is very important.

Pointed out that the presence of British companies in Iraq need to remove bureaucracy and fight corruption.

"There are imbalances and problems in Iraq that need to be focused on any future government to lead a country like Iraq, and that leadership needs to understand the building of economy, governance, rule of law and institution building," Wilkes said at a press conference in Najaf.

He added that the political culture in Iraq today is evolving and Iraqis today know the good and corrupt.

"There are two million displaced people in Iraq who have not returned to their homes and we will work to support Iraq in this file," he said, adding that Britain has priorities in Iraq, the most important of which are the completion of partnership and support in the military and security fields to remove the sting in Iraq.

A Republican decree was issued to set the date for legislative elections in Iraq on May 12.
