A cargo ship collided with an archaeological palace on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul after routing equipment was disrupted, leading to a halt in traffic in the strait from both directions, Turkish media reported.
"Qatar boats and coastguard ships headed for the area after the collision of the flag-flying ship, and the tanker was pulled ashore," CNN Turk said.
There were no reports of casualties, but the footage from the site of the collision showed great damage to the coastal archipelago, which lies under the Sultan Mehmet al-Fatih Bridge, one of the three bridges between the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. "
The palace, which was hit by the ship in the 18th century, dates back to weddings and concerts, according to the palace's website.
The Bosphorus Strait is one of the world's major oil transport hubs, with more than three per cent of the world's supplies, mostly from Russia and the Caspian Sea, which stretches 17 miles and links the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
The grain routes from Russia and Kazakhstan also pass through the Strait to international markets.
