The New York Times reported that Foreign Policy magazine addressed US threats to respond to the massacre of the Syrian regime in the Syrian city of Douma, the last stronghold of the opposition in the eastern Ghouta, where Bashar Assad's regime used chemical weapons.

"If America decides to strike in Syria in retaliation for the chemical massacre in the eastern Ghouta, it will have to strike a much stronger blow than the one it carried out a year ago at al-Shaerat," the magazine said in an article by expert Nicholas Geras of the new US Security Center.

According to the magazine, "US missile attacks last year on the base of barricades of air did not achieve their objectives, the Syrian army aircraft continued flights from the airport hours after the attack."

It was alleged that chemical weapons in Damascus remained intact and that the regime's forces continued to use them.

"In order to inflict tangible and significant damage on Assad and to adequately review Trump's ambitions, the United States will have to attack more targets, so that the military capabilities of the Syrian regime's army will be undermined," read the expert from the US Security Center.

CNN quoted a former US national security adviser, Tom Donillon, as saying that there are three things the US administration should take in response to "reports" of the chemical attack in the city of Damascus.

"First and foremost, there must be clear evidence and the fact that the Syrian regime is behind this attack, and secondly, to take precautionary measures so that the United States does not act individually."

"Thirdly, the preparation of large military moves, beyond what we did last year, the Israelis moved quickly and impressively, and destroyed half of Syria's air defense system, and I think that the US administration should consider taking a step that would cause great damage to the air defense system and air installations in Syria "Of the system.

Trump attacked Assad strongly, saying he would "pay a heavy price", describing the latter as an "animal," in response to a chemical weapons attack on the city of Douma.

The Washington-based Akhzaminer, quoting a Pentagon source, said the US destroyer, Donald Cook, had left the port in Cyprus on Monday and headed for Syria.

The Black Sea Fleet announced on Tuesday a state of alert for Russian air defense systems in preparation for any US attack on Syria.
