The Russian Academy of Sciences and honorary president of the Korchatov nuclear institute, Yevgeny Velikhov, said Russia was building a hybrid thermal nuclear reactor by the 1930s.
Russia and each country that is currently involved in the ITER nuclear thermal project is capable of setting up a production plant based on the hybrid nuclear fuel reactor 2030-2035, Velikhov said.
"Russia is the best location for this plant, as it is a major destination for the export of nuclear fuel," he said in an interview with the Russian ez.ru portal.
According to the academic, the hybrid reactor is a reactor that combines the nuclear and nuclear thermal. He explained that the reactor could work not with uranium but with thorium, whose reserves in the ground are five times higher than uranium reserves. It is also much cheaper than uranium and does not require the use of high temperature and super pressure.
The ITER project is being carried out in the southern French town of Kadrash, 60 km from Marseille.
The principle of its work is the interaction of the fusion of isotopes of hydrogen, deuterium and tritium, leading to the formation of helium and high-energy neutrons, under conditions of temperatures above 100 million degrees Celsius, or five times the temperature of the sun. End 25 n
