Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that US efforts to change Iran's nuclear deal are sending "a very dangerous message" to the world that states should never negotiate with Washington.
Zarif told reporters in New York on Saturday that the attempt by French President Emmanuel Macaron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to "appease President Donald Trump would be a futile exercise."
"The United States has not only failed to do what it has to do, but is asking for more."
Zarif, who is visiting New York for a UN General Assembly meeting, said: "This is a very dangerous message for the Iranian people and for the peoples of the world too, that you should never reach agreement with the United States, because ultimately the principle of the United States is: It belongs to me, and what you have is negotiable. "
By May 12, President Trump will decide whether to extend the periodic decision to lift sanctions, or announce his country's withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Tehran and re-impose US economic sanctions on Iran, which would be a severe blow to the 2015 agreement between Iran and the six major powers.
Since his election as president of the United States, Trump has pressed European allies to work with Washington on substantive amendments to the deal. Trump is scheduled to meet in Washington this week with Macron and Merkel, and it is expected that the subject of the agreement will be presented at this meeting.
