    The General Federation of Trade Unions of Iraq issued a press statement on Tuesday calling for the acceleration of the issuance of a new law on retirement and social security for workers according to international labor standards, demanding the development of productive sectors and rehabilitation of state institutions and the protection of local production. 

    "On the occasion of the Labor Day, we must emphasize the importance of continuing pressure and escalating public demands to restructure the structure of the Iraqi economy and diversify the national production base by promoting and developing productive sectors in industry, agriculture, construction, services, The 

    Union stressed that it is necessary to rehabilitate state institutions and support private sector service and product, and protect local production from competition through the application of customs tariff laws and consumer protection, and obligate state institutions to buy products of these companies.

    He added, "Our General Union joins the labor and trade union vote tirelessly to abolish Saddam's Resolution No. 150 of 1987 and the unjust law 52 of 1987 and to release the right of organization and activity of trade unionists in all projects and productive and service institutions." He called for the speedy enactment of a new law on retirement and social security for workers in accordance with international labor standards, and the adoption of the rights and freedoms of trade union law in accordance with international labor standards after Iraq 's ratification of the accession to the Convention on the 87 of 1948.
