[ltr]Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jubouri announced on Thursday that he had authorized the competent authorities to issue a special amnesty for former defense minister Sultan Hashim.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The family of the former Minister of Defense Sultan Hashim and because of the deterioration of his health, I applied with a number of personalities Mosul for the purpose of approaching the concerned parties to include a special amnesty," Jabouri told a news conference held in the parliament building.[/ltr]
[ltr]He added that he would "approach the concerned parties, both in accordance with his competence. I will turn to President Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and President of the Federal Supreme Court Midhat Al-Mahmoud to discuss the possibility of obtaining a special amnesty for Sultan Hashim."[/ltr]
[ltr]Sultan Hashim Ahmed is one of the most prominent figures of Saddam Hussein's former regime and has previously held the posts of defense minister, governor of Mosul and chief of staff.[/ltr]
