[ltr]Oil prices rose today with support from OPEC-led production cuts and the possibility of new US sanctions on Iran, but gains have been curtailed by a significant increase in US crude inventories.[/ltr]
[ltr]Global Brent crude futures contract ended the trading session up 26 cents, or 0.35 percent, to settle at $ 73.62 a barrel.[/ltr]
[ltr]US benchmark WTI futures rose 50 cents, or 0.74 percent, to close at $ 68.43 a barrel.[/ltr]
[ltr]Oil is bolstered by the prospect of a US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, raising concerns about crude supplies from the Middle East.[/ltr]
[ltr]On the other hand, OPEC-led production cuts are helping to reduce the abundance of world crude supply.[/ltr]
[ltr]But growing US oil inventories are putting pressure on oil gains. Government data on Wednesday showed a 6.2 million barrel jump in crude inventories in the United States last week.[/ltr]
[ltr]US oil production also hit a record weekly high of 10.62 million barrels per day (bpd) to overtake Saudi Arabia, OPEC's biggest producer, and approach the output of Russia, the world's biggest oil producer.[/ltr]
