Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari derided the absence of Syria from the League of Arab States, describing it as an absence of the Syrian state and not an absence of the ruling person, asserting the absurdity of this absence.
"We do not have an alliance with a particular person, we have a moral and constitutional alliance with the peoples of the region and we respect their choices," Jaafari told a joint news conference with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi after talks in Amman on Sunday. "We believe that what happened to Syria is a lack of the Syrian people. The Syrian people must be brought to the League of Arab States. "
"The Arab League is not a university of referees. It is a university of states and the rule of the state is the people. We do not allow the Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian or other people to be absent, so it is not easy to accept the absence of the Syrian people from the League of Nations.
