ERBIL — Iraq’s influential Shi’ite cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, has called on Kurds to stand against the corruption in Iraq through their votes during the upcoming election.

“Kurds should raise their voice against corruption in Iraq. The Shi’ites and Sunnis should do the same,” Sumariya News quoted the leader of Sadrist Movement.

He noted that the vote of each person from any ethnic or religious group in the country matters for the day after election to establish a government free of corrupts.

Sadr also noted that election is a process to allow every component of Iraq to take part in a decision-making process, and not merely for the majority in the country.

His remarks come hours after Nouri al-Malik, the leader of State of Law Coalition, said that there will be a majority government if they win the election.

Iraqis will go to polls on May 12 to vote for the fourth parliament in their country.
