The Turkish central bank resorted to new measures to inject additional liquidity from the US dollar, to support the lira, which fell to record highs.
The bank has raised the amount of dollars it offers in regular foreign exchange auctions to $ 1.5 billion from $ 1.25 billion previously.
With the deteriorating state of the lira, the bank is expected to increase its dollar exposure to $ 7.5 billion (or $ 5.7 billion if it is more accurate), the Hurriyet newspaper reported on its website.
On Wednesday, the lira fell to record highs of 4.35 against the US dollar, especially with geopolitical tensions in the region and coinciding with the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran.
The Turkish currency is also down after the international rating agencies downgraded their rating to Turkey.
Central banks often resort to putting dollars in the market and sucking the local currency to stop the deterioration of its exchange rate against the dollar[/ltr]
