    [ltr]The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday asked the Israeli consul to Istanbul, Yusuf Levy Safari, to leave the country for a while.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Diplomatic sources said that the foreign request came against the background of the developments that followed the recent Israeli attacks on the Palestinians at the eastern border of the Gaza Strip.[/ltr]
    [ltr]On Tuesday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry, in a brief statement, asked the Turkish consul in Jerusalem, Goran Turkoglu, to leave the country temporarily.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"The Turkish Consul in Jerusalem was summoned to the Foreign Ministry and asked to return to his country (Turkey) for consultations for a period of time," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Turkish Consul to Jerusalem is an ambassador to Ankara to Palestine and resides in East Jerusalem.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Turkey recalled its ambassador to Israel, Kamal Okum, who lives in Tel Aviv on Monday as part of measures to respond to the massacre committed by the Israeli army against unarmed Palestinians on the Gaza Strip border.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"His return to his country for a period would be appropriate," the Turkish foreign ministry said Tuesday.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Last Monday, the Israeli army committed a massacre of peaceful demonstrators on the Gaza Strip border, killing 62 Palestinians and injuring more than 3,000 others, with live ammunition, rubber bullets and tear gas.[/ltr]
