[ltr]The United States on Saturday condemned the targeting of the headquarters of the Iraqi Communist Party and the recent bombings in Baghdad, pointing out that the acts of political violence and cowardly terrorism have no place in the democratic Iraq today.[/ltr]
[ltr]"We condemn yesterday's bombing targeting the headquarters of the Communist Party in Baghdad, as well as the bombing that killed seven people in the Shula neighborhood of Baghdad on May 23," the US Mission in Iraq said in a statement received by Mawazine News.[/ltr]
[ltr]"These acts of political violence and cowardly terrorism have no place in today's democratic Iraq," she said, urging "the Iraqi people to reject these attempts aimed at sowing fear and division during this sensitive period to form a government."[/ltr]
[ltr]"We will continue to support the Iraqi government in doing everything in its power to ensure peace and security for all Iraqis during the holy month of Ramadan," the mission said.[/ltr]
[ltr]On Friday, the headquarters of the Communist Party of Iraq (PUK) was hit by an explosive device, followed by mortar shells, causing damage to the area. There were no casualties. A terrorist attack in the Shula area hit the park, killing four people and injuring 15 others.[/ltr]
