North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has expressed his hope that the upcoming summit with US President Donald Trump will end decades of confrontation between the two countries, while expressing concerns about the security of his regime if he agrees to disarm.

For his part, US President Donald Trump said he will not impose any additional sanctions on North Korea at the moment.
"We have hundreds of new sanctions ready for implementation," Trump said, but made clear he would not impose them "before the talks collapse."

Trump points to ongoing talks with North Korea to prepare for the June 12 summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Trump announced after a meeting on Friday with a senior aide to Kim that the summit will be back on track.

Trump announced last week that the summit had been canceled.

After his meeting at the Oval Office, Trump said he was looking forward to the day he could "abolish" North Korea's sanctions.
