The
dollar rose against the euro and hit a three-week high against the yen on Wednesday ahead of the announcement by the Federal Reserve Monetary Policy Committee (FOMC) that investors are waiting for signs of how many US interest rates will be raised this year.
The US Central Bank monetary policy committee will conclude its two-day meeting on Wednesday and it is widely expected to announce a rate hike for the second time since the beginning of the year.
The focus is expected to shift to a meeting of the ECB's monetary policy committee on Thursday.
The dollar index was up 0.1 percent at 93.867 after gaining 0.25 percent the previous day.
Oil prices fell on Wednesday as supply in the United States increased and expectations that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could ease restrictions on voluntary production cuts.
By 0708 GMT, Brent crude futures were down 52 cents, or 0.7 percent, at $ 75.36 a barrel.
US WTI futures fell 49 cents, or 0.7 percent, to $ 65.87 a barrel.
OPEC and some independent producers, including Russia, have begun cutting production since 2017 to reduce the global supply gap and raise prices.
Gold prices settled on Wednesday after falling to a one-week low during the previous session as investors awaited signs of a rate hike in the future by the Federal Reserve after the meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee later in the day.
By 0634 GMT there was little change in spot gold and $ 1295.02 an ounce after touching a one-week low of $ 1292.60 an ounce in the previous session.
Gold in US futures contracts for delivery in August fell 0.1 percent to $ 1298.50 an ounce.
Gold is very sensitive to US interest rates that raise the cost of acquiring a yellow metal that does not generate a return while leading to the rise of the dollar, which is priced gold.
