The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday the handover of the Kuwaiti side of the seventh fisherman to the Iraqi authorities, indicating that this was an update of the efforts of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuwait .

"The seventh fisherman (Hamad Hashim Hamad), who was lying in the morning hospital for two weeks, was handed over to the Iraqi authorities concerned," ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement received by Alsumaria News. .

He added that "the family of the fisherman expressed their joy to meet their son and expressed their deep thanks and appreciation to the Foreign Ministry and the embassy and Iraqi Ambassador Alaa Al Hashimi for care and follow-up of his health and assistance in his extradition."

On 30 May 2018, a Kuwaiti coast guard intercepted an Iraqi fishing boat in the Khawr Abd Allah area and arrested its crew of seven fishermen, one of whom was seriously injured during the incident.

On June 5, 2018, the local council in the Faw district of Basra announced that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior handed over six Iraqi fishermen to their Iraqi counterpart a week after their boat was intercepted and arrested by a patrol of the Kuwaiti Coast Guard.
