Canada agrees with Washington on continuation of NAFTA talks

"We decided to continue our negotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)," Canadian Foreign Minister Christia Freeland said after meeting with US Trade Representative Robert Leftaers on Thursday.
Freeland said work would be taken seriously during the summer but no specific dates had been set for resuming negotiations.
Negotiations for the amendment of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) began in August 2017 and were due to end by the end of December of the same year, but this deadline has been extended several times.
The Secretary of State said she had informed the US Trade Representative about Canada's seriousness in imposing retaliatory tariffs on US imports from July.
"We will not step up and we will not back down either."
